Winemaking notes: 100% Syrah grown on granite soils on the famous hill of Saint-Épine in Saint-Jean-de-Muzols, the grapes are partially de-stemmed and fermented on the skins for four weeks with twice daily pump over. The wine is aged in 25% new French oak for 16 months. 

Tasting note: the Jacouton Saint-Joseph Rouge is medium garnet in color with hints of purple, and a clean nose of pronounced intensity with aroma of violet, blackberry, cassis, boysenberry, smoke, duck fat, white pepper, star anise, and dried sage. On the palate this wine is dry with medium acid, medium tannin, medium alcohol, medium+ flavor intensity and a medium+ finish with flavor of violet, blackberry, damson, leather, Turkish fig, smoke, duck fat, anise, and herbs de Provence. Drink now through 2029, this Saint-Joseph from tbe Northern Rhône Valley is very very good: 9.4/10.
