14.1% abv, Monique et Tessa Laroche, Savennières, imported by Polaner Selections, Mount Kisco, NY. Cork closure: natural. Biodynamic calendar: fruit day.
Winemaking notes: 100% Chenin Blanc, ecocert organic, 45-year-old vines grown on schist, slate and clay soils: the wine is bottled after 18 month aging in cask and tank. The family owns 12 hectares of vines entirely in the small appellation of Roche aux Moines which only comprises 35 hectares in total.
Tasting note: the Roche Aux Moines is medium gold in color with a clean nose of medium intensity with aromas of orange blossom, dandelion tea, satsuma, quince, apple, lanolin, slate and green tea. On the palate this wine is dry with medium+ acid, medium alcohol, medium+ flavor intensity and a medium+ finish with flavors of gardenia, lilac, quince, tangerine, slate, elderflower, green tea, pink ginger, wet stones, yogurt, and lanolin funk. Drink now through 2031, this single-vineyard Grand Cru Chenin Blanc from the Anjou region of the Loire Valley is outstanding: 9.6/10. This has an elegance and depth that is often lacking from Chenin Blanc, and can age nicely or open up over a couple of nights to start singing now.
