13% abv, Olivier Biecher, Saint Hippolyte, imported by Votto Vines, Hamden, CT. Cork closure: composite. Biodynamic calendar: flower day.

Winemaking notes: 100% Riesling, organically farmed. “ Rosacker is among the most celebrated of Alsace’s Grands Crus vineyards, with descriptions of its wines dating back to 1483. It owes its name to the wild roses, which grow in abundance around the edge of the vineyard. The limestone soils here produce Rieslings that are bone-dry yet which have a rare richness and mouth-filling texture.” “The Rosacker grand cru constitutes 26 hectares on a dolomite limestone terrace with an east and southeast exposure over the village of Hunawihr. The cru is planted to 65% Riesling. Created during the German Triassic geological period, Rosacker sits on a Muschelkalk and Lettenkhole parent rock. The latter is shelly sedimentary limestone dating back 235 to 245 million years ago, more or less dolmotised. The calci-magnesic marl and sandstone soil of the Rosacker Grand Cru contains limestone and dolomite pebbles. About 1.50 metres-deep on average and with a heavy texture, its structure is nevertheless aerated by siliceous talus from Vosges sandstone. The water reserves are good (150 mm of useful water supply on average). The slope here is gentle and moderate. It does however become steeper in the upper part and at the entrance of the closed vale near the top of the village.”

Tasting note: the Alsace Riesling Rosacker is medium lemon in color with a clean nose of medium intensity with aromas of gardenia, lemon blossom, kiwi, apple and lemon. On the palate this wine is dry with medium+ acid, medium alcohol, medium+ body, medium+ flavor intensity and a medium finish with flavors of lemon blossom, orange blssom, green apple, yuzu, white peach, fennel and neroli.
