12.5% abv, Les Vignerons de Tutiac for Stephane Héraud, Marcillac, imported by Kindren Vines, Troy, MI. Cork closure: natural. Biodynamic calendar; fruit day.
I might have a soft spot for Bordeaux Blanc, particularly oak-aged wines like the Jouberts. Poor man’s white Burgundy with a hint of rich man’s Sancerre, maybe I’m on to something? Or maybe I just love white wine. Crafted from 100% Sauvignon Blanc and aged in French oak barrels for six months, I decided to take a flyer on the 2016 vintage bottled by the Tutiac co-operative, and I was rather pleased. Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux AOC is known as a strange kind of outlier of traditional Bordelais white wines; situated on the right bank of the Gironde River the white wines of Blaye are often blends of Ugni Blanc and Colombard rather than Semillion and Sauvignon Blanc.
The Jouberts is deep lemon in color with a clean nose of medium intensity featuring aromas of lemongrass, yellow peach, cheese and dried apricot. On the palate this wine is dry and has medium acidity, medium alcohol, medium+ body, a medium flavor intensity and a medium+ finish with flavors of peach, apricot, passionfruit, lemon curd, creamy oak, and subtle hints of French vanilla and toasted coconut. This was rather enjoyable. Drink up, it’s on peak! Good 8.9/10.
