12% abv, Morey-Saint-Denis, imported by Classified Wine Imports, Houston, TX. Cork closure: natural. Biodynamic calendar: leaf day.

5th generation vignerons, the Castagnier family practice biodynamic farming and own a small domaine of just 4 hectares in the Côte de Nuits village of Morey-Saint-Denis. This is undoubtably Pinot Noir terroir but the Aligoté vines are planted in Morey and have been so since 1925, making them some très veilles vignes indeed. Jérôme says the stony soil of Morey is perfect for Aligoté which comprises just a third of a hectare. 1/3 of the wine was aged in barrel, and the remiander on the fine lees in tank for around a year.

Tasting note: the 2017 Aligoté has a clean nose of medium intensity with aromas of stone fruit, green apple and a touch of creamy lemon curd. Structurally, this wine is dry with medium+ acid, medium alcohol, medium body, medium flavor intensity and a medium minus finish with flavors of white peach, nectarine, Bartlett pear, and a touch of tapioca cream. This wine is rather simple, yet enjoyable and moderately balanced. Drink now, this wine is good: 8.7/10.
