13% abv, Famille Boisset, Premeaux-Prissey, tasted at domaine. Cork closure: natural. Biodynamic calendar: fruit day.
Winemaking notes: 100% Pinot Noir from the commune of Brochon, the ‘Les Evocelles’ vineyard is situated just north of Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru ‘Champeaux’ at the top of a steep slope. The Boisset family’s first vineyard was planted by a young Jean-Claude Boisset and his father-in-law in the 1960s. Today some of the original vines remain as well as new clones and massale selections:
Les Evocelles (young vignes) Surface: 1.236 ha
Plantings: 2011 and 2012 Planting density: 13,600 vines/ha
Les Evocelles (old vignes)
Surface: 1.898 ha
Plantings: in 1956 to 2010 Planting density: 10,000 vines/ha
The vines are planted on a very silty clay and the 3.13ha vineyard has been farmed organically and biodynamically since 2001. The wine is femented in an open-top French oak fermented with 50% whole cluster and the wine ages in custom citeaux barrels for 14 months.
Tasting note: the Gevrey-Chambertin is medium garnet in color w/ a clean nose of medium+ intensity with aromas of rose hip, pomegranate, blood orange, ruby red grapefruit, crème de violet, black tea, pink peppercorn, orange peel, coriander, fennel, anise and marjoram. On the palate this wine is dry with medium acid, medium tannin, medium body, medium flavor intensity and a medium+ finish with flavors of rose petal potpourri, toasted orange peel, dried cranberry, clove, cedar, anise, sage and fennel. Drink now through 2026, this Pinot Noir from the Côte de Nuits or Bourgogne is very good: 9.0/10.
