13.5% abv, Alain Brumont, S.A. Vignobles Brumont, Maumusson-Laguian, imported by Kindred Vines, Troy, MI. Cork closure: natural cork. Biodynamic calendar: flower day.

Vignerons since 1861, the Brumont family (also of Château Montus) have 50 hectares of vines on yellow and white clay over limestone bedrock soils along a cliff line in the hills of Gascony in Southwest France. The Chateau Boucassé is comprised of around 80% Tannat with some Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. It was aged in 40% new oak for around a year.

Tasting note: this wine is medium garnet in color with a nose of medium intensity featuring aromas of red currant, dark plum, licorice, sassafras, cola and a hint of tomato leaf.
Structurally, the wine is dry with medium+ acidity, a medium body, medium+ tannin, medium+ flavor intensity and a medium finish with flavors of sour cherry, pomegranate, red and black currant, cedar, French vanilla, crème caramel, and a hint of dill. This Madiran was singing an arietta after an hour of breathing and I found the aromas were open and the flavors were very clean and rather pronounced with no hint of brett or game. This wine was very well done: 9.2/10. Drink now or through 2026.
