While Fixin may live in Gevrey-Chambertin’s shadow, the wines are more than capable of producing examples with dark fruit and firm tannins as you would expect. In the capable hands of the négotiant house of the elder Bouchard, this Fixin impresses. Farmed from 60-year-old vines on long-term lease, the lieu-dit (single vineyard) ‘La Mazière’ is fermented in open-top wooden vats with natural yeast, aged in 30% new 225-liter French oak barrels for 15 months before being bottled.
Tasting note: Bouchard’s Fixin is deep ruby in color with a clean nose of medium+ intensity with aromas of violet, toasted hazelnuts, smoke, balsam, dark cherry. On the palate this wine is dry with medium+ acidity, medium tannins, medium+ alcohol, medium+ body, medium+ flavor intensity and a medium+ finish with flavors of cassis, dark cherry, ripe plum, cocoa powder, French vanilla and forest floor. This wine is very good 9.2/10, drink from 2025.
