13% abv, Meursault, imported by Vineyards Brands, Birmingham, AL. Cork closure: natural. Biodynamic calendar: fruit day.
Winemaking note: 100% Pinot Noir, vines on average >40 years of age; hand harvested, natural yeast, and aged for 14 months in 15% new French oak. The cellars of Girardin are now a subsidiary of the Boisset family, but the excellence in winemaking and value have continued under their négotiant philosophy. The wines sometimes see a judicious amount of new oak, which makes them a bit chewy and almost a throwback style of the 1990s and rewards their cellaring with improved balance.
Tasting note: the Girardin Santenay is medium garnet in color with a clean nose of medium intensity with aromas of dried rose petals, potpourri, raspberry, black cherry, tarragon leaf, leather, clay and iron. On the palate this wine is dry with medium+ acid, medium alcohol, medium tannins, medium body, medium+ flavor intensity and a medium finish with flavors of rosehip, toasted chestnut, cherry, pomegranate, sassafras, rhubarb, earth, mint and a hint of mushroom funk. This wine is very good, drink now or through 2028: 9.2/10.
