3.5% Gironde, imported by Lefgroup, LLC, Asheville, NC. Cork closure: natural. Biodynamic calendar: unfavorable day.

Winemaking notes: 100% Merlot, aged 12-18 months in 33% new French oak. Importer note: “Once part of Château Bourgneuf, near Château Trotanoy, the Gros family purchased the first plot of Château Grange-Neuve at the end of the 19th century. They built up vineyard land over the years through a succession of small purchases, and it now stretches over 18 acres of vines replanted in 1956. Harvest is done by hand and fully destemmed. Grapes are then kept in vats for over a month with frequent pumpovers. Following drawing-off and separation of press wines, the wine is left to clarify naturally in vats. All wines are then transferred into oak barrels 3 months after harvest.”

Tasting note: the Grange-Neuve Pomerol is medium garnet in color with a clean nose of medium intensity with aromas of rose petals, currant, tobacco and horse sweat/barnyard and eucalyptus. On the palate this wine is dry with medium acidity, medium+ tannins, medium alcohol, medium body, medium flavor intensity and a medium+ finish with flavors of rosehip, red currant, oak spice, clove, plum jam, toast and ash. Drink now through 2029, this wine is good: 8.8/10.
