13.5% abv, Boisset, Nuits-St-Georges, imported by Boisset America, St. Helena, CA. Cork closure: natural. Biodynamic calendar: flower day.
Winemaking note: 100% Pinot Noir harvested in early October and completely destemmed before a week-long cold soak and 25-day fermentation on the skins with natural yeast before aging in 100% new French oak barrels. “The ‘Belle Croix’ plot is located below the ‘Les Pruliers’ Premier Cru, to the south of the village and offers a calcareous brown soil resting on a thick layer of silt. The name of this climate refers to the cross overlooking the parcel, a memory of a 16th-century chapel, dismantled during the French Revolution.”
Tasting note: the 2016 ‘Belle Croix’ is pale garnet in color with a clean nose of medium+ intensity with aromas violet, lavender, tar, blackberry, mulberry, cream, french vanilla, and a hint of ash and smoke. On the palate this wine is dry with medium+ acid, medium tannin, medium+ body, medium flavor intensity and a medium+ finish with flavors of potpourri, kirsch, cassis, black cherry, pomegranate, toasted oak, bacon fat, duck fat and a touch of anise and cocoa powder. This wine is outstanding; drink now through 2040: 9.6/10.
