13% abv, Fleurie, imported by Wines With Conviction, Dallas, TX. Cork closure: natural. Biodynamic calendar: root day.

Winemaking notes: 100% Gamay Noir à Jus Blanc. “Domaine des Fonds in Fleurie was created in 2010 by André Berrod and his son Florent. Previously, André was a co-owner and sole winemaker at the renowned Domaine Berrod. The domaine owns 10 hectares of vines in Fleurie and 2.5 hectares in Saint Amour. Andre and Florent Berrod cultivate their vineyards in the organic way. Berrod harvests by hand and does a first selection in the vineyard and a second on a vibrating sorting table at the winery. 80% of the fruit is destemmed and the juice is lightly clarified by cooling to ensure the purest possible wine. Fermentation begins with two pumping over operations: one in the morning and one in the evening for the first 4 days. Berrod ferments in non-sealed concrete tanks which permit a subtle micro-oxygenation and then ages his wines for 15 months in stainless steel tanks.”

Tasting note: the de Fonds is medium garnet in color with a clean nose of medium intensity with aromas of violet, red plum, strawberry, black tea, leather, duck fat, white pepper and iron. On the palate this wine is dry with medium+ acid, medium+ tannin, medium alcohol, medium body, medium flavor intensity and a medium finish with flavors of rose hip, grilled peaches, mulberry, leather, game and white pepper. Drink now through 2028, this wine is very good. 9.0/10.
