Winemaking notes: 100% Cabernet Franc from a 2-hectare vineyard planted in the 1950s. The grapes are farmed organically, de-stemmed and fermented with natural yeasts before aging in tank for six months. This estate in run by Romain Guiberteau a disciple of Clos Rougeard’s Nady Foucault. The family have some of the best vineyards in the terroir of Brézé in Saumur.

Tasting note: the Saumur Rouge is deep ruby with a clean nose of medium+ intensity with aromas of rose petals, red currant, raspberry, red licorice, anise and tobacco leaves. On the palate this wine is dry with medium+ acid, medium tannin, medium alcohol, medium body, medium flavor intensity and medium finish with flavors of lavender, cranberry, red currant, huckleberry, tobacco leaf, eucalyptus, fenugreek, celery salt, rosemary, and radicchio spice. Drink now or through 2029, this wine is very good: 9.2/10.
