13.5% abv, Famille Perrin, Château Carbonnieux. Imported by United Wine & Spirits, Houston, TX.
The dry white wines of Bordeaux can soar to incredible heights, especially in the appellations of Graves and Pessac-Léognan where they share the best terroir on Bordeaux’s left bank and are given the royal treatment in winemaker’s cellars. Tour Léognan is the second wine of the unctuous barrel-fermented Carbonnieux, but only manages to capture some of the latter’s charm. 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Semillon, the 2018 vintage is aged in French oak for 9 months (25% new) with periodic lees stirring to give it some depth and weight.
Tasting Note: Pale gold in color, and with a pronounced nose of jasmine, citrus, guava and a touch of woodspice; on the palate she is dry, with medium+ acid, medium+ body, medium+ alcohol, and a medium+ finish: some balance! Flavors of grapefruit, lemongrass, cantaloupe and mango with a touch of creamy vanilla grace the finish. Drink now; this wine is very good! 9.2/10
