13% abv, Famille Boisset, Prémeaux-Prissey, imported by Boisset America, St-Helena, CA.

The Prémeaux-Prissey address of Boisset’s DdlV is a quiet cellar striving toward’s greatness, and has been well recognized as one of the top domaines in Burgundy by the likes of Atkin, Morris and Meadows. Under the direction of Sylvie Poillot, the winemaking team features dedicated and specialized personnel for the white and red Bourgogne wines from the regional to Grand Cru levels. The 2017 NSG ‘Les Damodes’ is a climat located furthest north of the village on the border with Vosne-Romanée, and interestingly, close to such well-known vineyards as Au Dessus des Malconsorts and more than a stone’s throw from the Grand Cru vines of La Tache. 48% whole cluster and macerated for 25 days before resting for 16 months in 35% new barriques (hailing for the Cîteaux and Tronçais forests). 100% Pinot Noir is farmed organically and biodynamically (ecocert) since 2000, as are all of Vougeraie’s vines.

Tasting note: Medium ruby with a clean nose of medium intensity, verging on pronounced, with aromas of cassis, damson plum, bramble, toasted chestnuts, and a lovely steminess of carnation, rose petals, hibiscus tea and earl grey tea and a hint of rhubarb.
On the palate, the acid is medium+, body medium+, alcohol medium, tannins high; this is a full-bodied wine with a very long finish and flavors of fresh tarragon leaf, luxardo cherry, cassis, juicy Mirabelle and black splendor plum, bay leaf, and a touch of Hungarian paprika and a lovely fatness of umami mushroom and woodforest in the mid-palate.
This wine is outstanding, and has a superb pedigree with incredible weight and length; there is so much dense and complex fruit and texture here that only come with the finest Bourgogne wines. This wine has the superb hand of the winemaker guiding the expression of terroir in a lockstep toward greatness. I could be easily convinced this was a grand cru. drink now with proper decanting, or will improved for 15+ years: 9.7/10
