12.5% abv, Vignobles Gabriel & Co., Adrian et Thomas Novoa, St-Christoly-de-Blaye, imported by MISA Imports, Dallas, TX. Cork closure: composite. Biodynamic calendar: flower day.
Winemaking notes: 75% Sauvignon Blanc & 25% Sauvignon Gris from a 44-hectare vineyard, certified organic, 25-year-old vines, on clay-limestone and clay-sand soil. Direct pressed with no added sulfites, and bottled free of sulfur addition.
Tasting note: the Blaye Blanc is medium lemon in color with a clean nose of medium intensity with aromas of lilac, gardenia, lemon and lemon thyme. On the palate this wine is dry with medium+ acidity, medium alcohol, medium-minus body, medium flavor intensity and a medium-minus finish with flavors of citrus blossom, pomelo, Meyer lemon, lemon oil, yuzu and a hint or bergamot oil and lemongrass. This wine is simple but good: 8.8/10. This Right Bank Bordeaux appellation is quite unique for their Sauvignon blends, and I was excited to try my first white wine from here. The result is interesting but not as aromatic and intense as I would expect from a village-level white Bordeaux or a natural wine. Perhaps Sauvignon Gris is a subtraction by addition, although I would be pleased to try more wines from this area.
