13.5% abv, Blienschwiller, imported by J&J Winery Inc., Napa, CA. Cork closure. Synthetic. Biodynamic calendar: root day.
Winemaking notes: 100% Riesling from the Grand Cru slope of Winzenberg, fermented almost dry. Winzenberg is a 19-hectare vineyards, “ocated on two hillsides facing south and south-east, separated by a small valley. Here the Rhine fault-line overlies the Vosges fault-line. The grapes ripen on a steep-sloped hillside overlooking the village of Blienschwiller. The homogeneous terroir of Winzenberg is composed of a two-mica and siliceous granite, relatively rich in quartz and not very deep, between 30 and 50 cm. The granite rock shows on the surface in certain places. It’s a soil which heats quickly, notably due to the local microclimate properties.”
Tasting note: the Grand Cru Riesling is pale lemon in color with a clean nose of medium-minus intensity with aromas of orange blossom, white peach grapefruit, and honey. On the palate this wine is dry with high acid, medium alcohol, medium body, medium+ flavor intensity and a medium+ finish with flavors of orange blossom, honeysuckle, green apple, kaffir lime, pink grapefruit, lime zest, white peach, honey and slate and limestone minerals. Drink now, this is very good: 9.1/10. It was very pleasant, overall, but suffers from a rather shy nose and some lack of intensity which affected the balance.
