13% abv, Monthelie, imported by Martine’s Wines Inc., San Rafael, CA. Cork closure: natural. Biodynamic calendar: fruit day.
Winemaking notes: 100% Pinot Noir.
Tasting note: the Monthelie is medium tawny in color with an unclean nose of medium intensity with aromas of potpourri, desiccated flowers, rosehip, blood orange, dried cranberry, copper, iron, roasted meat, earth, barnyard and burnt orange peel. On the palate this wine is dry with high acid, medium-minus tannins, medium alcohol, medium body, medium+ flavor intensity and a medium+ finish with flavors of dried violets, black tea, blood orange, bitter dried orange peel, fennel, roasted meat, beef tallow, caraway, leather and forest floor. Unfortunately, this Monthelie is past its prime. My bottle was is in poor condition and not suitable for rating. Although not completely undrinkable, I suspect storage issues have led to the degradation of the cork which had run all the way and was completely damp.
